Our first official meeting with our architect was an attempt to put a dream into the beginnings of a form and we had big ideas on how to describe our dream home.

After our failed attempts to discover how to get the ball rolling, we decided to start talking to people that knew how to go about building a house.
Lets buy a truck
I often say things to Josh that catch him off guard or seem out of the blue. But there was a spring day in 2020 when I just blurted out, “We should buy a Truck” Josh had a truck in high school, and he loved his little truck, but we had never really talked about buying such a large vehicle. Also, why buy a truck when you are building a house?
Things are meant to be used
One of the most anticipated aspects of owning a home is the idea that we can again have an area we dedicate to storing and playing board games. Because, as Elizabeth famously says often and with deep meaning: things are meant to be used.
False Starts
Upon arriving in Indiana after moving back from South Carolina, the strong vision and deep need that fueled our ability to move home to Indiana dissipated. Elizabeth was exhausted from nightmarish pandemic ICU nightshifts, and I was still, weeks and months afterward, recovering from the whirlwind. We didn’t know what we wanted, we had dreams and hopes, but it all seemed so nebulous, so challenging.
